A takedown is the act of getting unauthorized content removed - sending notices to hosts, CDNs, social platforms, search engines, or ISPs to disable an infringing stream or link. In the US it is framed by DMCA notice-and-takedown; other jurisdictions have parallel mechanisms.
For on-demand piracy, takedowns can run on normal timescales, but for live events speed is everything: a pirate restream of a match has value only while the match is on, so platforms invest in automated, pre-authorized rapid takedown pipelines that can act within minutes. Takedown is the enforcement endpoint of the anti-piracy chain that detection and watermarking feed.
