Tizen is the operating system on Samsung smart TVs, one of the largest TV install bases in the world and therefore a must-have target for OTT apps. Tizen apps are built largely with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) running in the TV's web runtime, with Samsung SDKs and APIs for playback, DRM, and remote-control input.
Smart-TV development on Tizen comes with the usual living-room realities: a wide range of model years with differing performance and capabilities, app certification and store submission, and DRM specifics (PlayReady/Widevine) that vary by model and firmware - notably the kind of PlayReady migration that reshaped valid configurations on certain Samsung TVs.
