Concurrent viewers is the live count of how many streams are active at a given instant - the real-time expression of concurrency. It is the headline number during live events, where a peak of concurrents is both a success metric and the load the infrastructure must survive.
Operationally it is watched on real-time dashboards alongside QoE: a spike in concurrents during a premiere stresses CDN, origin, and license servers all at once, and correlating concurrents with rebuffering or start failures reveals whether the platform is scaling cleanly. It is closely related to the concurrency capacity-planning metric, but framed as a live, observed audience figure.
